- As of the semester SUMMER 2022/2023, handling of Thesis topics is carried out exclusively in the USOS-APD system at https://apd.usos.pwr.edu.pl. Since there is no possibility of administrative correction of entries in USOS-APD, it is advisable for supervisors/promoters to be highly meticulous in taking care of linguistic and editorial correctness. The topic with defects in the description can be returned to the author only at the level of consideration of this topic by e Programme Commission for a course of study.
- When determining the topic and scope of the thesis, the following specifics should be taken into account:
- The topic of the engineering/master's thesis should coincide with the research and teaching profile of the supervisor/promoter; the topic must coincide with the graduate student's field of study.
- The topic of the engineering thesis must not be a review of literature solutions or the development/construction of a didactic setup. The title and purpose of the engineering thesis should bear the hallmarks of practicality, requiring an engineering approach or the application of engineering/technical means, may include, for example, design, preparation, implementation, commissioning, development, drafting, characterization, measurement. The student should demonstrate in the thesis knowledge of the methods/tools/elements possible to solve the problem undertaken and the ability to choose the right ones and then apply them correctly.
- The topic of the master thesis must have a research aspect, expressed in the title and purpose of the work bearing the hallmarks of a research paper, may include, for example, research, analysis, comparison, characterization. It is important to set the thesis topic in the broader context of research within the discipline of Automation, Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Space Technology. In the thesis, the student, developing the issue taken up, should be able to apply research methods (including literature review), and, above all, demonstrate independent thinking and the ability to interpret the results of research/experiments/measurements; the student should not be limited to a descriptive presentation of the issue.
- When determining the topic and scope of the thesis, the following specifics should be taken into account:
- USOS-APD distinguishes two activities: Submission of Dissertation Topic and Submission of Request for Approval of Dissertation Topic.
- Submission of Dissertation Topic - is an activity that results in the creation of an entry in the CATALOGUE of dissertation topics visible to students for searching. The submission is visible in the CATALOGUE immediately after it is saved by the supervisor/promoter. The submission is not subject to approval by the Programme Commission for a course of study. Information must be entered into the Submission according to the template discussed in Presentation-2a.
A student interested in a topic found in the CATALOGUE contacts the supervisor/promoter indicated there. In the event that a particular student wishes to take up such a topic, then the mentor/promoter carries out the actions from p. 3a. - In a situation when a particular supervisor/promoter is approached by a student with his/her idea for a thesis topic, and the supervisor/promoter undertakes to take care of such a topic, there is no need to fill in the Thesis Topic Submission from item 2a, but the activities from item 3b can be implemented immediately.
- Application for Approval of the Thesis Topic - is an activity as a result of which, the thesis topic will be voted on by the Programme Commission for a course of study. In the situation of a positive vote, the topic will be approved with the simultaneous assignment of the student to this topic.
- All information about the thesis topic can be transferred from the Application to the Application automatically. After that, this information can be subjected to possible editing. Transferring and editing are discussed in Presentation-3a. The application must be supplemented with additional information; which is covered in presentation-3b.
- In a situation where there was no Application previously, a complete set of information must be entered into the Application for Approval of the Thesis Subject according to the template discussed in presentation-3b.
- Both the Submission and the Application include the key field Description of the topic in the original language, which must be completed. All [ELEMENTS] indicated below must be included in this field, without changing their order, and a brief (1-2 sentence) description is required for each (see presentation-3b for details):
