Electronics and Photonics

Field of study: Electronics and Photonics:
Language of study: Polish
Level of education: first-cycle studies
Form of studies: full-time
Number of semesters: 7
Professional title awarded after graduation: engineer

Description of the field of study:

Electronics and photonics are at the heart of many of today's devices. Some of these devices are used on a daily basis, others are used in modern telecommunications or to generate solar energy, while others are used in professional applications such as industrial installations.

The studies of Electronics and Photonics give you the opportunity to learn about the design and manufacturing techniques of components and subassemblies used in these devices, how to combine them into systems and the basics of programming.

The studies of Electronics and Photonics are carried out using a laboratory and research base that is unique in Europe, by academics with a recognised reputation in the field. The curriculum includes, among others, issues concerning:

  • the design and implementation of complex electronic systems incorporating state-of-the-art analogue and digital and micromechanical components, controlled by microcontrollers and programmable logic circuits,
  • advanced micro- and nanoelectronic and photonic technologies used in the manufacturing of integrated circuits, sensor elements and microsystems,
  • physical fundamentals, design and manufacturing of optoelectronic and photonic components, integrated optics for fibre optic systems,
  • principles of microcontroller programming, programmable logic circuits and mobile applications development,
  • application of computer techniques in the design and modelling of electronic, photonic and microsystems.

Study programme:

The current version of the study program is available here.

Job outlook:

  • Designer, builder and tester of electronic systems (analogue and digital) using the latest design and diagnostic systems and methods.
  • Specialised service technician of modern equipment based on electronic and IT systems.
  • Integrator of electronic and IT systems for e.g. the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, automotive or intelligent infrastructure solutions including programming of production lines.
  • Coordinator or leader of design and production teams for modern electronic systems with interdisciplinary knowledge of production and application engineering solutions as well as market strategy.
