Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems

Worth to know

At present, electronics offers not only hardware solutions related to signal processing and transmission or data collection and storage, but also the integrated software solutions. Current trends in the development of civilization cause electronics to be more and more closely related to photonics, control engineering and robotics, microsystems, telecommunications, IT and artificial intelligence, where analogue circuits are combined with digital ones and complemented by advanced and multi-level software.

Photonics supports electronics in applications which require sending huge amounts of information and the "possibilities" of electrons in this area become insufficient. Therefore, we increasingly often employ optical phenomena and transmit information using photons. Hence the growing importance of photonics and its connection with electronics and computer science.

Microsystems are devices ranging in size from micrometres to a centimetre, and are manufactured with the use of electronic and mechanical technologies, on the micro- and nanoscale. Currently, microsystems are a bridge to nanoelectronics and nanomachines. Their widespread dissemination in all areas of human life and activity will increase with the development of science and technology as well as modern production methods.

Presentation of the Faculty for the Open Day 04/04/2022

The student's perspective

Daniel Tomasz Ząbek, student of the 5th semester, Electronics and Telecommunications, student representative, chairman of the Faculty Council of the Student Government                                                                        zabek.jpg

It can be said that the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems is a place where the impossible becomes reality. Why? Not so long ago, we did not even dream about the current achievements in the field of miniaturization. And yet the progress in this matter was made, among others, at our Faculty. When we look at computers, telephones, tablets, TV sets, we will see that all these devices are simply "filled" with microsystems (microprocessors and sensors). Excellent lecturers and specialists in this field will tell you about them during your studies.

What is studying at the Faculty like? I don't think it can get any better. We have some of the best teachers and researchers who effectively develop the interests of committed students, either individually or through active research clubs. We have various theoretical and practical courses – design, laboratory, and practical classes as well as lectures. Therefore, during your studies you can gain broadly understood knowledge in the field of electronics, photonics, optics and microsystems. Of course, if you only want to.

I would also like to mention that the Faculty authorities and the Faculty Council of the Student Government are trying to effectively solve all problems reported by students.

So if you don't know where to study, study with us at the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems!

"Studying is just about learning" – nothing could be further from the truth! In addition to delving into the world of robotics, I had the chance to meet amazing people, work on research projects in research clubs and organize various events together with the student government. What's more, thanks to the student exchange program, I made international contacts and improved my foreign language, which combined with the knowledge from my studies and allowed me to take up interesting internships, and then work. If I had to go back to high school and again decide where to study, I would definitely choose to experience this adventure again!

Wiktor Dębowski, 1st semester student, Electronic and Computer Engineering debowski.jpg

I chose to study at the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems, Wrocław University of Science and Technology because I knew that I would learn not only how to work independently and in a team, or how to manage my time well, but also many other useful skills.

The field I chose, i.e. Electronic and Computer Engineering, provided me both with engineering knowledge, which allows me to understand the technical aspects, and with specialist knowledge. Studying is not just about learning. Students at the Faculty can participate in many initiatives which allow them to develop and meet very interesting people.

Studying at the Faculty allows me to learn theory combined with practice, which is so important in the future. Classes are taught by practitioners who, in addition to the vast theoretical knowledge in a given area, infect us with their passion and make learning a pleasure, and make us want to learn more independently. In addition, the opportunity to participate in various types of organizations and projects means that we are constantly developing and facing new challenges.

Studying is the best time in life to improve your skills and develop new ones. It is thanks to this education that we will be attractive to employers from many of the best Polish and international companies.

There are many opportunities for self-development at the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems, not only in terms of education. Student life at the university and at the Faculty flourishes, in research clubs, in cultural organizations, and in sports clubs. Personally, as a robotics enthusiast, I carry out interesting projects with my friends from the research club, thus having the opportunity to turn the theoretical knowledge gained during my studies into practical activities. Of course, this applies to any field of study, so whatever your field is, you will always find something for yourself.

If you ever think of becoming a student at our Faculty, don't hesitate and make your dreams real!

Studying at the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the equipment used every day by electronic engineers. It is also an opportunity to meet interesting people with great passion. Lecturers have enormous knowledge that they willingly pass on to students in an accessible way. Our Faculty is a place where we expand our knowledge and skills in a friendly, cooperative atmosphere.

By studying at the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics and Microsystems, I learned things that turned out to be necessary in my professional work. I got a very well-paid job in the field of industrial automation solutions, even before obtaining the title of engineer. Qualified teachers and researchers deliver knowledge in an accessible, understandable way and are always ready to help. In addition to studying, the Faculty gives the opportunity to actively participate in research clubs offering interesting projects. Thanks to our activity in the Student Government Council, we have a real influence on what is happening at the Faculty.
