1st Place in the International Unite Widening! Tri-City SLW Hackathon: “Crafting Future Cities”
A staff member of our Faculty, Łukasz Janiec, MSc Eng., from the Department of Cybernetics and Robotics, together with a team composed of representatives from Wrocław University of Science and Technology and the University of Lisbon, won 1st place in the international Unite Widening! Tri-City SLW Hackathon: “Crafting Future Cities” (Stockholm, Lisbon, Wrocław). The prize awarded to the team includes a trip to Lisbon and the opportunity to present their project at a TEDx Talks event to be held there before June 2027. This will provide an excellent opportunity to connect with international innovation ecosystems, academia, and industry.

- Edgar Iseg Brissiaud and Moritz Arndt (Business Analysis and Management specialists, University of Lisbon).
The project, entitled “Green Dream: Re-Crafting Future Cities,” presents a modular façade system featuring configurable modules, including solar panels, vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs), and “green” modules based on plant evapotranspiration.
Łukasz Janiec:
– In the project, I was responsible for CFD simulations of wind hitting the building and optimizing the use of wind tunneling effects on the building's geometry (Venturi effect, downwash/downdraught, corner vortexes) to produce energy from special wind turbines printed with a photovoltaic layer, combined with the long-term optimization of energy harvesting by the building through the ability to replace, modify the arrangement, or move the previously described modules on the building's facade. This is a very interesting topic bordering on architecture, physics modeling, automation, and optimization. I hope that this research and development project will have a chance to be brought to life in the future. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the mentors, without whom many interesting and innovative ideas would not have been incorporated into the project.
